Hawaii has a brutal climate for windows and window hardware; high rise condos add the complexity of higher stresses, increased wind loads, and inherent difficulties in access including the potential need for gantry or scaffolding.
Windows designed solely for residential use are simply are not designed to withstand the wind borne debris, and higher winds and water pressures that occur at higher floor levels and will therefore fail and leak. In addition, condominium and apartment owners must be especially aware of the potential danger posed by tropical storms and hurricanes.
Recognizing the potential for injury and damage to property, the state of Hawaii has recently revised building codes to increase rating for wind zones from 105 mph to 140 mph in many areas and will add requirements for hurricane impact rated glass and frames. It’s anticipated the new code will be adopted at the end of 2016 or early 2017.

Delivery went off without problems. Peter & Kai were promt, professional and careful while setting 3 patio sliders aside for the install. Five stars for them!I would rate a five star for the install had it not been for a couple of issues with Nemo (Installer). Nice guy, knows his job, however made a few mistakes which made a 3 day job turn into a 4 day job plus required Dave (Owner) to come out on a 5th day to resolve!Dave gets 5 stars! He will make things right. I highly recommend DWD. Just one thing, if there's anything you aren't satisfied with, do NOT let the installer attempt to convince you there's nothing that can be done to resolve their mistake. It's your home. There's always a way. And Dave will make it happen!!I am so confident in DWD, that I just ordered 2 entry doors!!
We ordered a large custom door several years ago. It needed some service work. The owner David came out and fixed our door in a fast and timely manner! Thanks David and Discount Windows and Doors!
I called a spoke to an employee at DWD and confirmed that the base price to R&R an Entry Door was $690, with the understanding that there might be addition charges when they remove the old door. So the sales rep came out to our house to take measurements, then about five days later emails me the quote to remove the old door and install the new pre hung door. The Base Quote jumped from $690 to $2,460.73. When I called to question the difference in price, he basically stated that he had to coordinate with the door manufacture in Florida, then explained the complicated process that is required to R&R an entry door. He then declined their service once he realized their quote was too expensive. So potential customer beware and make sure you get everything in writing so they don’t catch you sucker if you basically agree to an open checkbook.
The personal experience we had with Discount Windows and Doors would take us right back to their store in Kaneohe again for new windows. Discount Windows has great prices and often deep discounts during sales.Our windows were expertly installed by Anthony and Kelii. They are a great team. They are careful and detailed when striving to give customers the best installation experience possible. We wholeheartedly recommend this company!

Discount Windows and Doors did an amazing job on our replacement windows. From the beginning to end we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Our design consultant, John, helped us pick different windows in the different areas of our home. He listened to our goals and gave us great advice. He made it so easy and fun. The owner, Dave, came out and did our measurements and was so nice and confirmed our decisions. Then, Nemo called and scheduled the install. Nemo came the day of, communicated when he would arrive and was prompt. He worked hard and had the job done quickly. Hauled away all the rubbish and old windows and left everything clean! I wish all contractors could have this level of a work quality and kindness!

Dave Pirog, owner, did an amazing job installing an awning window for me in the kitchen, that brought light & air to the area. Dave worked meticulously and efficiently for 3 days over this 'small' job. When he cut open the area, we discovered that, surprisingly, not only there were electrical wiring but also water & air pipes in the area. Rather than giving up, Dave re-constructed the opening by diverting the pipes & wiring to the side, so that the window can be installed in the same spot. With ingenuity, skill & patience, Dave completed the window, & he was meticulously clean as well. He was an amazing engineer, carpenter, plumber & electrician all rolled into one. Thanks Dave. This review is for the super job Peter and Spencer did in delivering my windows “early” because as we all know, that’s pretty unusual. Scheduled my delivery for 10:30 am and Peter called the morning of the delivery and asked if he could come early and I have course said yes. He and Spencer were friendly and efficient and left me with the proper instructions. Now we’re on to installation and hope for the same efficiency and quality as we receive with delivery.

Very pleased overall with the installation of our new front entry door. Quality of the door is excellent and the color and style greatly complement the appearance of our home. Installation was very professional and efficient. Some minor defects in weatherstripping as delivered were efficiently replaced in a timely manner (the owner came out himself to correct). Also, customer service in the process of selecting and purchasing the door was outstanding.

Our windows were falling apart so we had them replaced by Discount Windows. First I appreciate it's a local company - support local! The whole process was pretty painless. It took about couple month for the windows to arrive.Kai was very communicative and kept us regularly updated. He answered all of our questions promptly.The installer Andrew and his crew were also awesome. Did the job quickly, was able to work arounds when the windows needed tweaking in the openings and left the job site spic and span.I am very happy with the results
What makes a company great is what they do right. What makes a company extraordinary is what they do to resolve issues quickly. Discount Windows & Doors is an extraordinary company.The owner Dave is a hands-on owner invested in ensuring his customer's questions and concerns are quickly addressed. He is accountable for his actions and those of his team, and transparent in admitting when a mistake was made.My mother paid in full when our products arrived. We ere told installation would be scheduled upon receiving oaynent. But 19 days went by and still no installation date. My mother kept being told they were short staffed. I texted Dave and he immediately responded to me. Next, I immediately received a text from the installer and it was scheduled for 6 days later. Dave apologized that it was his fault and there were two accounts with the same name and the wrong paperwork was sent to the installer. I'm a business person and understand these things can sometimes happen. I appreciated Dave's transparency and it really is all about the immediate recovery and apology that matters.When the products were delivered, one of the items was not our item. The guys delivering it said they'll take it back and look into what happened. Timing was of the essence, as the installers were scheduled to arrive between 1-2 hours. I immediately texted Dave and he quickly texted me back saying he is having his guys look into it. Shortly after, I received a call from the Warehouse Manager that said he's looking into it and will call me back in 10 minutes. I received a call in 11 minutes from the Operations Manager who said the Warehouse Manager was on his way with our screen door and will be arriving in 10-15 minutes. I immediately texted Dave to thank him for getting involved and that our door was found and on its way. Dave immediately texted me back and said he was just about to text me to let me know the same and was happy everything was back on track.But the extraordinary experience did not stop there. Ironically the installer Discount Windows and Doors sent was also named Dave, from a company, Ho'okele.I have a CrimeSafe Screen Door at my house and it was NOT installed like how Dave from Ho'okele installed it at my mother's house. He critically thought through every aspect of the installation to ensure the door was installed in such a way that it would not be possible for it to be removed my would-be thiefs and was calibrated properly. He painted the wooden frame to match the door and filled all the drill holes. He cleaned up all areas where he worked in the patio and on the grassy area (and even picked up all the leaves that were on our grass!) Talk about going over and above. The installation was clean and perfect! I have even asked them to come to my house to adjust the installation of my CrimeSafe to be as perfect as my Mom's.This was our family's third purchase from Discount Windows and Doors and first install by Ho'okele. That duo will now become our family's go-to for any of our window and door needs. Thank you very much to both Dave's and everyone at Discount Windows and Doors!

Update: Sliding door materials came in and due to the high demand on their labor workforce, to avoid delays, Dave Pirog (owner) came in himself to do the installation. His attention to detail and pride in his work clearly showed with the final result...couldn't be happier.Delivery folks (Peter and Spencer) were great - on time, courteous and made sure to be extra careful on where to place the materials. The installation of the windows that I ordered (awnings and a new slider) was nicely done. Windows look great and looking forward to my new sliding door when that comes in later this month.
I got quotes from three companies to replace my old, falling-apart Jalousie windows. Discount Windows and Doors offered hands down the best price for a quality product. Every part of the process was smooth sailing, from scheduling for the measuring to dropping off the material to the installation. The installer, "Nemo," was thorough and I was impressed with his attention to detail, not to mention he had a great sense of humor. I will absolutely go back to Discount Windows and Doors again if I have another project.

Discount windows & doors has great customer service. Dorian Pai gave us great information while leading us through the process. He even gave tips on how to make a slight adjustment on an issue we had on another door, which saved a bunch. The prices was good, however unfortunately we went another route with our door replacement. I wanted to make sure Dorian and the company good the best review from me, because the price and service is still top notch.

I bought jealousy windows for five years ago from Discount Windows in Kaneohe Hawaii, and was absolutely thrilled with them.Last week, I had a small issue with one of them and called, they set up an appointment, and the tech came out to look at the situation. Although he was unable to figure out exactly what the issue was, and he certainly tried his best… I received a call from the owner who came out the next day, and worked it out perfectly! WOW! I knew they guaranteed their work but who would’ve guessed that five or six years later they would live up to what they had agreed to. I would recommend this company to anyone. They spent time explaining what kind of windows are best for the bathroom that I am renovating.Met Dave, the owner, when he came to the house to measure the windows. Nemo did a great job installing the windows - really pleased with the results! It's an older building and lots of quirks and site requirements, all of which he handled expertly. The entire installation process went smoothly.

This review is only for the follow-up "warranty" repairs after window installation. "EJ" replaced several screens that had small holes or discoloration. He was polite and did good work. He showed me how to install/remove screens (tricky when they're a tight fit). He also went the extra mile to add screen pull tabs, which make installing the screens so much easier.

A few years ago this team did a great job when they installed new jalousie windows and front door in our condo. After 5 years, it was time to renew the screens. A quick call and they pulled up the records for the sizes and had the replacement screens ready really quickly at very reasonable cost.Highly recommended!

I couldn't be happer with my new Codel doors. Ordered a custom size with bilateral sidelights for the front entry and another for the back door, adding a Crimsafe security screen door to match. Although delivery from the mainland took a couple of months, I was happy that I waited for these fantastic doors. Amazing build quality. Everyone at DW&D I worked with was friendly and professional, from Dave (the owner), to Peter and Zane who did the delivery, and of course Nemo, the masterful carpenter who did the install. He completed the job in 3 days, keeping the entries secure and cleaning the work area at the end of each day. When it was discovered after the removal of my original front door that there would be a gap between my old porcelain tile flooring and the new door sill, Dave cut a beautiful custom piece of aluminum sill that extended over the tile perfectly, and in my opinion even enhanced the overall look of the entryway. Nemo did a great job throughout and after pouring 1" of concrete at the bottom of my back entryway, raised the doorframe up as a safefguard against water ingress which was a problem with my previous back door.

Ejay and Kai replaced a broken spring in my window quickly and efficiently. In addition, Ejay explained each step to me and showed me what he was doing. They left an extra set of springs in case I need them later.
We have only great things to say about the professionalism from the top down. Dorian, the salesman was honest and very knowledgeable, he gave us the correct information and the right price. It feels like it took forever, but that was on the apartment complex not Discount Windows & Doors. Their installation team was absolutely fantastic, and EJ who came out to fix one of the panels was also great.
The repair/warranty tech EJ in particular is a caring and helpful person who went the extra mile to avoid further delays in a warrantied part getting fixed. His help is most appreciated.
I replaced windows in my condo in Salt Lake. Dave and his team were very easy to work with. The install went smooth and looks great. Their pricing was by far the most affordable.

Got a replacement sliding glass patio door with the security screens. Ordered through Darian, Dave (the owner) comes to verify sizes and installation requirements for delivery, wood trim that will be done, down to the exact installation process.Doors and screens came in earlier than expected, then installed very professionally by Nemo.Every step of this project was handled and done very professionally, with friendly and efficient service. Bought my sliding glass, divided lite, wall in 2015 and love it. Took a long time to find a company that could do a level threshold and 3 dimensional minions. These had to come from Florida and customized for the size pane I wanted. I love them and today they came out to adjust the sliding screen door that wasn’t sliding, no charge. Excellent company.

I am the third generation owner/occupant of my home in Kailua that was bought in the 50s by my grandfather. This home was renovated in 93 and needed replacement windows due to the salt air and wind that took a toll of some of windows that were installed nearly 30 years ago. Discount windows were the company we trusted to complete the job. Nemo who installed our windows was incredibly professional, kind and efficient. From the moment I was contacted to set the install date to the end of the job, he showed professionalism and great craftsmanship. Nemo took the time to check the hardware and measurements and explain the mechanics and warranty of our product. If I need services from discount windows and door I will be asking for Nemo to complete the job.

Very happy with the new windows and the service and install we had from David and Memo. Huge thank you for arranging two install teams headed by Memo and completing the whole install in one day. That makes a big difference when you work for home not to lose too much time to construction. We have a 60+ yo Single wall Hicks home so it was time to do a complete window package for the downstairs and complete the change to all vinyls in the upstairs. The supply chain delays really effected my plans for getting the house painted in the summer as we live in Manoa so winter means no painting. But we are really happy with the windows. The design looks like it is very good at keeping out geckos and other critters. (some of our other mainland vinyl windows aren't very good at this without modification) Glad to buy something that takes Hawaii's particular climate and challenges into consideration.We are West facing and can already tell a temperature difference in the afternoon going to Low E windows.They also installed a new Lanai sliding door and made it fit in the old openings perfectly. No small feat in a home that is not likely square any more.I will only go with custom windows from now on. DWD has a good selection of windows to choose from and the team's service is exceptional.
Worked with Discount Windows and Doors for the purchase of custom sliding doors and windows for our home. They answered all questions and worked with us when changes needed to be made. Their install crew were professional, courteous, and got everything installed quickly once everything was delivered. They will be my first choice for all future door and window purchases.
This review is for the installation portion only. We are very pleased with the installation of 7 casement and double hung windows that replaced old and broken jalousies. The installation was done by Bobby and Oren in one day. They did an excellent job and cleared away the old windows afterwards. Bobby came back the next day to finish wiping down and cleaning the windows. He also made a special trip to install a bracket (additional support for the window AC unit) and covered the gap between the AC unit and window frame.In addition to quality installation work, we were impressed with the installers’ promptness and excellent communication.
I worked with discount W and D on a previous home i owned in town (pre-covid). This go round, i needed an exterior door replaced along with some old jalousie windows that are broken. Communication was great, email, call, text, all very effective and clear. Estimates and prices were accurate. Hell, even the owner (Dave) came out to my home to do the inspection and measurements! Added bonus in my opinion. As expected, the order took several weeks to come in, but again, not a worry because EVERYTHING takes time these days, especially to the islands. Once the door came in (sooner than expected), I received a call to schedule installation, and within a few days, may door was installed. Now, my installers were excellent. Extremely professional with communication and their work. On time, as they said they would be. And my old wood was rotten and junky. They made the trim and new door look awesome! Thank you!
We received quotes from 3 different companies to replace our windows with sliding glass doors, and discount windows and doors was by far the least expensive, not only that, but their service was the best I have ever witnessed!We have used contractors for our home as we have been doing renovations for the past year and a half and this company was far and away my favorite. Mark and his father were CLEAN, competent, professional, and did fabulous work. I am not sure what happened with the other reviewers but this company has obviously pivoted to ensure their customers are happy. I could not have asked for better service. My husband is a nuclear engineer and is usually so picky about our contractors work and is also incredibly impressed with mark and his father’s work! Cannot recommend them enough. I am already begging him to come back for more work!!

I don't write reviews at all, but I felt the need to do so. I had a pane glass window that was cracked (I presume by window washers). I live on the 6th floor of a high rise and contacted 3 other companies, but no one else said they'd do it. Dave came by and said he did one in our building before so it shouldn't be a problem even though there is no balcony or anything on the other side of the window.The new window took a long time to manufacture, but it was outsourced it and it wasn't their fault. I presume everything is on backorder due to the pandemic.Anyway Dave and one of his guys came in when they said they would and got it done. They were super professional and I know he's done it a thousand times before. All I can say I know this wasn't an easy job, but he made it looks so and didn't have any problems. They were very thorough in their work and even cleaned up after they were done. Totally impressed and would recommend them to anyone.
