Thermal Efficiency

Whether you are replacing existing windows or building a new home, chances are you will want to select the most energy efficient windows available. Low-E glass acts as an insulator, reflecting up to 90% of the unwanted heat away from your living space. What was once an uncomfortable door or window to be beside can now be a comfortable place to sit. Without losing security and durability, this technology virtually eliminates harmful UV rays, reduces air-conditioning costs, protects furniture and carpets from fading and increases overall comfort.

What is Low–Emissivity and Low-E?

Low-E stands for Low-Emissivity. Low-E glass is coated with a microscopically thin, virtually invisible, metal or metallic oxide layer. The primary function is to reduce the U-Value by suppressing radiation heat flow. The U-value is the amount of heat that is transferred through a material (the lower the U-value, the better insulating quality). A secondary feature is the blocking of short wave radiation to impede heat gain.

The Benefits of Low-E Glass Are Clear:

• Cost savings

• Improved comfort

• Cooler living spaces

• Increased light & view

• Reduced fading

• Lower HVAC Costs

Energy Star Approves Low-E Glass

ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices

Energy efficient choices can save families about a third on their energy bill with similar savings of greenhouse gas emissions, without sacrificing features, style or comfort. ENERGY STAR helps you make the energy efficient choice. Virtually all our products are available with high performance Low-E glass.
